A passion with Lisa is what drove her to create Passionate
Paws. Passionate Paws is a nonprofit organization created by Lisa to help the
healing process in local hospitals by having trained therapy dogs visit patients in
several of the local area hospitals. This started out as a program through the
Veterans Hospital to help with the rehabilitation of returning veterans
suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and quickly has grown to include several other area hospitals,
including All Children's Hospital as well as the local Hospice.
Lisa is also working with her dogs to be used as therapy dogs for abused
children, the dogs would be part of the process when they give their deposition
which is very traumatic and the dogs can be a comfort to them during this
difficult time. This is something new to the area and Lisa is happy to be on the
leading edge of offering this service to her community.
Additionally Lisa has also started a program utilizing the dogs to introduce
children to dogs and learn the safety aspects of approaching strange dogs. The
statistics on dog bites to children is staggering and Lisa hopes this program
will help reduce those statistics around here.
Lisa has trained several dogs including her own dogs and is very involved with
this wonderful healing program. Ask how you and your dog can become involved. It
is a wonderful program!
